Phil McLuckie is over the moon to be back in the thick of it for Workington Reds after being his side’s late goal hero at the weekend.

It was McLuckie’s late goal which earned Reds three points against Stourbridge on Saturday when he reacted quickest, as Matty Douglas’s shot was spilled, to slot home in added time.

And after rejoining the club in October, 12 months after he had retired from football, McLuckie is enjoying being back on the grass and making an impact.

“I’m buzzing to be back fit and playing,” he said. “They weren’t the nicest of teams, Stourbridge, and it was a bit of a battle in a tough game.

“I thought we definitely deserved to win and a draw would have felt like two points lost.

“To get the winner, especially in the last minute, was a nice feeling.

“They obviously beat us in the play-offs last season so it’s a bit of revenge and if you want to be up there, you’ve got to beat teams like them.”
