Frome Town have announced that they have completed the signing of Chris McPhee following his release from Weymouth.
The vastly experienced player has previously been with Brighton & Hove Albion, Torquay United and Salisbury City to name just three before joining Weymouth as a player coach. During a career that has seen him play in a variety of roles he has also picked up three England ‘C’ caps.
He was snapped up quickly by boss Nick Bunyard as soon as he knew he had been released and was pleased to have brought such an experienced player into the squad ahead of a crucial two months:
“We felt that his experience and versatility could be invaluable over the remainder of the season with his pedigree in non-league and league football speaking for itself – he has taken a huge pay cut to join us and he is keen to salvage what is left of his season from a playing point of view after a stop start campaign.
It means we have signed a player who is highly motivated and fresh”.
Bunyard was also keen to tap into his new signings experience: “I have felt that we have lacked experience and a presence this season and first by bringing in Dan Cleverley and now Chris I feel we have remedied that.
To start with we need Chris’ input on the pitch but I am also keen to see him taking on a coaching role, in addition to playing, at some point later this season or certainly next”.
With the paperwork completed this morning and accepted by the Southern League it means McPhee is available for selection this evening against Slough.
