Former Premier League forward Gary McSheffrey has parted company with Eastleigh, the club have announced.

The one-time Coventry City star was signed by Birmingham City for a reported £4 million back in 2006 and would represent Steve Bruce’s Blues in the Premier League the following season. Now 35 years old, he moved into non-league with the Vanarama National League Spitfires back in September, having turned out for the likes of Chesterfield, Doncaster Rovers and Scunthorpe United in more recent times.

In a statement posted on the Eastleigh website, the Coventry native thanked the club and explained that the travel had been proving very difficult for him with a young family to think of.
