Worthing joint-manager Jon Meeney has announced that he will be stepping down from his position at the end of the season.

Meeney informed Gary Elphick, the coaching staff and the board of his decision on Saturday evening following the 0-0 draw with AFC Sudbury and has addressed the playing staff during training this evening.

A club statement read:

“The club is saddened to be losing Jon but wishes him every success on his continued journey in football. The Board would like to place on record its deep respect and appreciation for the hard work and dedication Jon has shown during his years with the club.

The club are very pleased to announce that Gary Elphick will be appointed First Team Manager, with Matt Piper stepping up from coach to Assistant Manager. Gary gave an outstanding presentation outlining his vision and plans for both the first team and under-18 squads, and we’re looking forward to an exciting future under his leadership. We are sure that Gary will share more of this vision in the coming weeks.

Jon has given Gary every assurance that he will provide as much commitment and support as is required for the remaining first team games this season.”
