Merthyr Town have named Dean Clarke as their new manager.

Clarke is a name extremely well known to the club, having played for the old Merthyr Tydfil before representing the reformed Merthyr Town in the last decade, and later becoming assistant manager.

The 43-year-old also turned out for the likes of Hereford United, Cheltenham Town and Newport County during his playing days.

He takes over as Martyrs manager from former Wales midfielder Gavin Williams, with Clarke paying tribute to his tenure:

“I would personally like to thank Gav for bringing me to the club in the first place as his assistant. I’ve learned a lot from him, which will only benefit me going forward.

“He has been a great servant to the club over the years and has been a pleasure to work with.”

On Clarke’s appointment, chairman Les Clarke said: I’m absolutely delighted to announce Dean as the club’s new manager.

“We as a board believe that Dean is the right man to take the club forward and can bring the club back stronger during these difficult times.”
