Mickleover Sports FC have announced that their joint managers Craig Hopkins and Glenn Kirkwood have decided to leave the club, having kept the club in the Northern Premier League this season.
Both Managers have young families and want to spend more time with them this summer.
A statement on the club website confirmed the news.
“Craig & Glenn joined Mickleover Sports in 2012 from Heanor and totally transformed a struggling team in to play off finalists in the Evo-Stik First Division South League in the 13/14 season, losing 1-0 to Belper in the Final.
They went 1 better in the 2014/15 season comfortably winning the league in style scoring over 100 goals. The step up to tier 3 of the football pyramid is a massive one and Craig and Glenn finished the season with Mickleover just above the relegation places, probably as big an achievement as winning the league the previous season.
Mickleover Sports Club would like to thank Craig & Glenn for the success they have brought to the club over the last 3 and a half years and wish them every success for the future.
They leave the club in great shape looking forward to a second season in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League. Mickleover Sports committee will be meeting this week to begin the process of finding a successor.
The duo also released a statement.
“Kirky and I would like to thank everybody at the club for everything they have done over the last three and a half years.
Mickleover Sports has moved forward due to the hard work and determination of everybody at the club, from the committee who have worked tirelessly to provide us a budget to improve the team, the volunteers who give up their time, to Dan the groundsman who is often working on the pitch when everybody else is in bed, the supporters who have stuck with us in a difficult season, and the players who have been a pleasure to manage.
I hope we have not missed anybody out.
We wish everybody at Sports, and the football club itself, all the best for the future, and I’m sure our paths will cross again at some point.
Thanks for everything.
Hoppo and Kirky”
