Spectators at the Boxing Day derby clash between 1874 Northwich and the Greens’ landlords Winsford United were united in support of fundraising for St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice.
The Hospice, which is based in Winsford and serves people from all over Mid and South Cheshire, and has been adopted by 1874 as part of a substantial community link up that has, with assistance from Winsford United, resulted in the stadium at Winsford being renamed as St Luke’s Barton Stadium.
Community spirit was in the air prior to the game with supporters being offered complimentary mince pies on entry, courtesy of the management at Sainsbury’s Northwich store, and at half time the community team at 1874 Northwich arranged a bucket collection in aid of the Hospice.
1874 spokesman Steve Richardson said: “We would like to thank both sets of supporters for their generosity in raising £106.77 for the Hospice.
“A reciprocal collection by Winsford United at their ” home ” game later in the season, should further benefit the hospice”.
