Akil Wright is making a late bid to finish the season as Wrexham’s leading goalscorer, say The Leader.
The midfielder netted the winner as the Reds beat Chesterfield 1-0 at The Racecourse to stay top of the National League.
It was Wright’s fourth goal of the campaign, leaving him two behind Mike Fondop, who has six in all competitions and is currently on loan at Maidenhead, and one adrift of Rekeil Pyke, now plying his trade with Rochdale.
There are 10 games remaining and Wright just wants to score as many goals as he can in Wrexham’s push for promotion.
“The midfielders are chipping in with a few goals this season. Me, Luke Young and Brad Walker have all got four,” said Wright. “It is not really on my mind being top goalscorer but at the same time, you never know.
“I am getting in those positions so hopefully I could end up top goalscorer.
“It is just about me putting them in the back of the net so hopefully in the 10 games we have got left I knock in a few more.”
