Martin Allen has revealed Robbie Weir wants to leave the Proact this summer and the manager will not be standing in his way, say The Derbyshire Times.
The Northern Irishman, who triggered a contract extension with his 44 appearances last season, is keen to play regular football – something Allen could not promise him.
Chesterfield’s new manager has brought in a pair of central midfielders already in Sam Wedgbury and Curtis Weston. But he did want to keep Weir.
“It’s his choice, not mine,” said Allen. “He intimated he wanted to be going somewhere and playing, and I couldn’t guarantee him a place.
“I thought he would be helpful to us with his experience, but at his age I don’t think we can stand in his way.”
