York City have this afternoon completed the loan signing of Cheltenham Town forward Amari Morgan-Smith.
The 27-year-old has signed a deal until the end of the season and could make his debut in the Buildbase FA Trophy Second Round tie away at Harlow Town on Saturday.
The 6ft striker spent his formative years with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crewe Alexandra and Stockport County before making a name for himself with non-league outfit Ilkeston Town who he signed for in 2008.
In his first season at the Northern Premier League Premier Division side, he helped fire the club to promotion to National League North, but after the club entered liquidation at the end of the following campaign, the forward left the Derbyshire outfit having netted 34 goals from 77 starts.
Following a series of trials, Morgan-Smith joined then fifth tier Luton Town on a two-year deal in September 2010 and during the next two seasons played a total of 48 games, scoring 18 goals.
Moves to Macclesfield Town, Kidderminster Harries and Oldham Athletic then materialised over the next three campaigns before the striker signed for Cheltenham Town in May 2015.
As the Robins sealed an immediate return to the EFL last season, Morgan-Smith netted five goals in 27 appearances, while this season he has made a total of 25 outings, netting his most recent effort against Leicester City’s Under-23s on Tuesday night in the Checkatrade Trophy.
