Corby Town manager Gary Mills has emphasised the importance of his side tightening up defensively ahead of this weekend’s home clash with Barwell.
Last Saturday saw the Steelmen boss pick up his first point since taking over from Tommy Wright in the Steel Park hotseat and he is keen for his side to build on that this weekend by cutting out the defensive errors that cost them a potential victory against Ashton United.
He told corbytownfc.co.uk; “We are ready for this weekend, it’s another home game and an opportunity to get three points.
“There were many positives to take from our performance and the result last weekend, it’s now time to kick on from that and start to close the gap between us and the sides immediately above us in the league.
“Last weekend was a great chance for us to take all three points, they didn’t really open us up and all of the goals that they scored were preventable.
“We really need to tighten things up defensively and cut out those individual errors this weekend. We look dangerous in attack and if you score three goals at home then you should be winning those games.”
Along with the positives in attack last weekend the Corby boss also admits that he was extremely pleased with the backing that his team got from the Steelmen fans last week.
“The fans were absolutely fantastic last weekend, to get that kind of support when you are sitting bottom of the table is great.
“It makes a big difference to me and the players. If the fans see the players having a right good go and playing with a bit of pride then they will back them. I felt our boys did that last weekend and the supporters responded.
“Tomorow we want to repay them with a win.”
