Spennymoor Town have continued their preparations for the Vanarama National League season by completing the signings of North Ferriby United midfielder Matthew Dixon and Hartlepool United forward Jake Orrell.
The duo become the Moors’ fifth and sixth signings of the summer following the additions of Ryan Hall, David Foley, Jordan Porter and Chris Chantler.
Speaking to the Moors website manager Jason Ainsley said “Jake is a very talented young lad with quality in both feet and who can play anywhere across the forward line. We tried to get him in last season but unfortunately for us Hartlepool ended up hanging onto him.
“He has impressed in pre season and we look forward to seeing him play in a Spennymoor shirt.
“I’m equally as delighted that Matty has put pen to paper after a successful trial. He has captained Hull City all the way through their youth system and is a very intelligent midfielder who uses the ball very well. He will be a fantastic addition to our squad.”
Orrell, who has had spells with Gateshead and Chesterfield, is hoping that he can play a part in helping the Moors continue their rise up the non-league pyramid.
He said: “I’m really excited for the season ahead. The few training sessions I’ve had already have shown me that it’s a very well-run, professional football club with a great bunch of lads and quality coaching staff.
“It’s a club that will keep progressing over the years and hopefully I can play a part in that this season.”
After three promotions in four years the Moors are now just one step away from non-league’s top tier and after putting pen to paper Dixon admitted that their ambition was one of the main reasons he decided to move to the Brewery Field club.
“Where the club is headed is one of the big reasons I’m delighted to have joined. After meeting the management team I got a good feeling about how confident they are about the coming season in the National League North.
“Hopefully I can get a good pre season under my belt and be ready for the challenge ahead.”
The Moors kick off their pre-season campaign with a trip to Ebac Northern League Division Two club Billingham Town on Saturday afternoon.
