Stalybridge Celtic have signed defender Danny Morton from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North side Colne FC.

Morton, who spent time with Burnley and Blackburn Rovers during his youth before playing for Barnoldswick Town and before that Nelson.

But he first came to the fore with Clitheroe where his performances attracted attention from higher level clubs.

In the end it was Stockport County who won the race to sign the 23-year-old, who became one of the-then Hatters` boss Neil Young’s first summer signings in June 2015.

However, having won two awards at Stockport’s end of season presentation, Morton was planning for his second season in the sixth tier.

To the dismay of many County fans, he was released, but the right-back dusted himself down and immediately began to search for a new club.

With offers from a number of National League North clubs, Morton could have moved elsewhere and got one over on his former employers.

However, after Steve Cunningham made contact, the former Clitheroe man joined Colne in early August.
