Basford United chairman Chris Munroe hopes to see Matt Thornhill play out his career with the club.

The one-time Nottingham Forest man has committed his future to the club with a new two-year deal.

Munroe said of the club captain: “Matt has shown the club, Chets (manager Steve Chettle) and myself great loyalty over a considerable period, and my dream is he finishes his playing career at Basford United, which now is a real possibility after this commitment for the next two years.

“Well done to Steve on this one, and it was always likely to be relatively simple, as there was a desire from all of us to make this happen.

“Nothing is better for our fans than seeing Matt scoring or contributing numerous assists, which we hope will continue to be in good supply going forward, so well done to all.”
