Cleveland Taylor believes Barwell’s narrow defeat at home to league leaders Whitby Town shows just how close they are to being at the top.

Despite conceding either side of half-time, the Canaries created plenty of chances throughout the match, and the former Football League man feels the signs are positive moving forward.

A midweek win over Hednesford Town after draws in previous games against Ashton United and Nantwich Town make Taylor feel confident heading into tough league fixtures versus Blyth Spartans, Warrington Town and in-form Matlock Town.

Taylor said: “Coming into the match, I didn’t think we were that far away anyway.

“If we’d beaten Nantwich and Ashton, we’d probably be in the top ten. Anyone who was at those games could see we should have won both.

“We aren’t far away and we’re very disappointed in that dressing room because we’re working very hard behind the scenes.”
