Aldershot Town manager Danny Searle hopes the National League can find a way of completing the season, insisting it would be a “travesty” if the campaign was made null and void due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Currently, all leagues below the National League South and North, including the Isthmian Leagues and Combined Counties Leagues, have been ended with the records null and void – meaning there will be no relegations or promotions.

However, a statement on the Isthmian League website suggested the National League was keen not to follow suit.

“I’m happy to be corrected, but I think this is the first time the football season has been disrupted since the Second World War,” Searle said.

“So no one knows what they are doing because we’ve never had to deal with it before. Usually there’s some bad weather and the pitch isn’t any good so you have a couple of games off, but here we are talking about taking a minimum of two months out of the season. It is uncharted territory.”
