In the battle of the new squads, visitors Macclesfield Town came out on top against promotion hopefuls Wrexham.
Dean Keates has been hard at work this summer building his own side after being appointed Reds’ boss during last season.
But Macclesfield arrived at the Racecourse Ground having signed 15 new players to Wrexham’s 13, and edged this match up 1-0.
Noe Baba’s stunning first-half goal was enough for the Silkmen, leaving Keates philosophical in defeat.
“It definitely wasn’t the result we wanted,” he told the club’s website. “Disappointed, but I thought second half we were a lot better, we played on the front foot and put them under a lot more pressure – but we didn’t create many opportunities.
“First-half, we didn’t put them under enough pressure, we stayed off them a little bit.
“There’s been mass changes over the summer. It’s a good squad, they’re honest and they work hard. A lot of them know each other but obviously it’s a different environment that they’re in now.
“There’s massive expectations at this football club and all being well over the course of the season they’ll gel and we’ll get more points on the board.”
Wrexham travel to Maidenhead United on Tuesday.
