Torquay United have announced that defender Kyle Cameron and goalkeeper Shaun MacDonald have signed contract extensions.
MacDonald, 22, has been a revelation between the sticks since signing for the club back in July. Having made 23 appearances so far this season, the young ‘keeper has made an excellent impression on TUFC manager, Gary Johnson.
“I’m delighted that Shaun has signed for us,” said Johnson. “He’s earned himself the number one spot and has proved well capable at this level.”
“Sometimes ‘keepers at his age just need an opportunity and he has taken his opportunity with both hands. The experience he has gained already this season will keep him in good stead for the future.”
Cameron, who turns 22 next week, joined the club in the summer and has been a rock at the heart of the Gulls defence, making 30 appearances so far.
Gary Johnson was understandably delighted to secure his man.
“I’m very pleased that Kyle has pledged his immediate future to Torquay United,” said Johnson. “He’s been an ever present since I’ve been here and he’s a top player. He’s one of the best centre-halves that I’ve worked with.
“He’s mature beyond his years which culminated in him being captain for a few games when Asa [Hall] was not available. He’s got everything he needs to have a good career in the game.”
