Torquay United youngster Sam Chaney was handed his first senior start for the club in our Easter Monday clash with Eastleigh.

The youth team product gave a good account of himself in the engine room of the team with an assured display that belied his tender years.

“He’s been knocking on my door telling me that he is ready,” said player-manager, Kevin Nicholson. “To be honest, I’ve thought that he has been ready for a while, it’s just that I have felt he could have more impact coming off the bench recently.

“He took his chance well against Eastleigh. He looked sharp and now we’ll see where he goes from here.”
