As Bishop’s Stortford prepare to make their earlier ever start to a league campaign with the visit of Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday, new boss Gordon Boateng has promised three will be no excuses this season.
“It’s going to be a tough season,” said Boateng ahead of his first league game in charge of the Blues. “We don’t want to be in a relegation battle all season, and we’ll do everything in our power to ensure that avoid a fight to stay us.
There will be no excuses, it’s all about winning the games, and it’s really important to have a good start on Saturday and at Welling on Tuesday.
“Gelling needs to be done on game-day, we need results and good performance.”
Boating admits that pre-season has been tough for his new-look squad which contains only four players from the Blues’ team that ended last season 11th in the Vanarama South table:
“Slowly but surely we’ve been getting better over a four week period, and having three games cancelled wasn’t ideal but we have to take what we can from the games we’ve played, and when we’ve been without a game we’ve worked hard on the training ground.”
Boateng expects to finalise his squad ahead of tonight’s official press evening, and details will be on www.bsfc.co.uk on Friday.
Saturday’s action against the Ryman League champions at the ProKit Stadium kicks-off at 3pm. Normal admission prices apply: £13 adults, £8 concessions, £7 students (with ID) and £6 uunder-16s. Accompanied under-12s are admitted free.
