Barrow AFC do not intend to keep adding more players to their roster until a new manager is in place.
The club have made three signings this week, bringing in Josh Granite from Ashton United, as well as Colwyn Bay duo Astley Mulholland and Jack Hindle. They join Nathan Waterston, who has signed a one-year contract after impressing in the final months of the 2017/18 campaign following a move from Workington, in penning new deals with the Bluebirds.
Goalkeeping duo Steve Arnold and Joel Dixon, as well as player/coach Grant Holt, are still under contract and will be part of the set-up, while former captain Asa Hall, England C international Dan Jones, midfielder Bedsente Gomis, defender Jack Barthram and striker Jordan White are contracted but have been transfer listed.
That makes a total of 12 players currently on the books at Holker Street as managing director Andrew Casson continues the search for the man to replace Ady Pennock in the manager’s hotseat. A shortlist for that post is being drawn up, with the likes of ex-Torquay United manager Kevin Nicholson and former Mansfield Town and Boston United boss Adam Murray among those thought to be interested.
Until the process of the appointment is completed – with around 25 candidates being whittled down to a shortlist of three or four – Casson said it was not likely further deals would be done to add to the existing squad list.
He said: “I’d be surprised if we did much more business before we brought a manager in.
“With the guys currently on the books, you’re looking at 12 players right now. We’d look to have 16 or 17 in before the start of pre-season, so that’s only four or five to go.”
