Ebac Northern League club North Shields have announced that all but two of last season’s squad have agreed to stay with the club for the new season.
Winger Bobby Taylor and midfielder Michael McKeown have already departed the Daren Persson Stadium this summer, joining Blyth Town and West Auckland Town respectively.
The Robins finished third in last season’s Northern League Division One table and the close season saw assistant manager Brian Smith replacing former boss Jon McDonald in the main role in the dugout.
Now Smith has managed to persuade a number of the club’s players to stay, as they look to improve on last season’s impressive finish.
The likes of captain Kevin Hughes, highly-rated full back Jack Donnison and prolific striker Gareth Bainbridge (pictured above) have all agreed to another year with the club.
Speaking to the club’s official website Smith said “I would like to thank the lads for putting the pen to paper and signing for the upcoming season. To keep the squad together from last year is a massive boost to the club”.
Smith has also brought in four new additions to bolster his squad.
Centre back John Parker (pictured right) returns for a second spell with the Robins and he joins from Northern League rivals West Auckland Town.
Parker was in the Robins line-up that won the FA Vase with a 2-1 win over Glossop North End in the 2015 Final.
Also returning for a second spell is midfielder David Henderson.
Smith has also added two former Gateshead youngsters, with defenders Joe Robson and Kurtis Dodds joining the club this week.
North Shields begin their Ebac Northern League campaign with a home game against newly-promoted Team Northumbria on Wednesday 9th August.
