North Shields have announced the signing of Daniel Taggart from Whitley Bay.
Taggart, who plays as a striker, has scored four goals for Whitley Bay this season. He signed for Whitley Bay in the summer of 2018.
The 24-year-old has Northern League experience having played for Jarrow Roofing, Morpeth Town and Whitley Bay.
First-team manager Marc Nash spoke after signing the striker,
“We are delighted to have added Dan to the squad. Although we are doing well, it is a position we are a little light with. We have not had more than two strikers this season at any one time and often we’ve operated with just one in the squad. It gives us more options and opportunities to spread the load in a key position.”
“Gary Day and Callum Johnston have been scoring but even so there was a few occasions where Sean McRoberts had to wear number 9 because they were missing. We have Connor Campbell out on loan but we will honour that promise for him to stay at Heaton Stan for the rest of the season where he is doing very well.”
Speaking about his plans for the striker, Nash said: “Dan gives us another dimension and he possesses great ability as well as a goal-scoring touch. We spoke to him in the summer so we were keeping an eye on his situation and it was apparent he seemed to be in and out at Whitley so we made the approach to the club and thankfully he agreed to join straight away.”
