Nuneaton Borough have announced Lee Fowler as Assistant Manager.

The former Boro’ player and veteran midfielder will be reunited with Nicky Eaden, who was Assistant Manager at Kettering Town whilst Fowler had a successful playing spell there in 2009.

On securing the role, the 35-year-old Welshman said: “I enjoyed working with Nicky at Kettering and we’ve stayed in touch over the past decade, so when I was offered the role I was delighted. It feels like the right time to start the next chapter in my career.”

A former Coventry City youngster who made the Wales bench against Argentina in 2002, Fowler has played at all levels of the Football League and National League since making his professional breakthrough in 2001.

Fowler’s first spell with the Boro’ saw him sign in 2014, playing 21 times and scoring three goals.

“I’m excited to be back at the club, though I remember my first game, and it wasn’t a great day. We were away at Torquay and it was a nightmare debut. We were soundly beaten and I was taken off at half-time.

“That disappointment spurred me on though and I worked hard to get my fitness levels back up.”

That turnaround saw Fowler secure a move back in to the football league with League One Crawley Town, where he worked under compatriot Dean Saunders.

“I’ve worked under a lot of different managers” said Fowler, adding “I’ve taken bits from all of them, both good and bad. I know what myself and Nicky want from the players, our core values will be straight-forward hard work and honesty.

“Myself and Nicky will be working very hard as well, we want to create a good environment for the players to thrive in. The signings we have made, and the signings we hope to complete shortly, will show our intent and represent what we’re about. We want to build a team that both ourselves and the fans can be proud of.”
