Having penned a new deal earlier this month, Alex Penny, is excited by the developments going on at Nuneaton Town.

The 20 year-old has attracted plenty of higher level interest since joining Boro and will also link up with Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy at the start of June.

“It’s great to be part of the buzz at the club,” he said. “There’s a really positive mentality around the place and it’s good for the club.

“The Gaffer is getting things done early; he’s making plans and giving us targets so that we can hit the ground running at the start of pre-season.

“With the squad that we are putting together I feel that we can really make our mark in the season ahead.”

Before thoughts turn to pre-season, Penny will be joining up with the V9 Academy on June 4th at the Manchester City training complex for a five-day residential programme where they will come under the gaze of scouts from all over the world.

“It’s another opportunity for me to prove myself,” he added. “I want to show what I can do and prove that I can play at the highest level.

“It’s a real honour to be selected and it will be a good experience for me.”

It’s going to be a busy summer for the talented full-back as we take part in the UKFlooringDirect.co.uk Tournament here at Liberty Way, featuring teams from Liverpool, Jong PSV Eindhoven, Glasgow Rangers, Wolves and Coventry City as well as hosting the likes of Peterborough United, Aston Villa XI, Leeds United XI and Leicester City XI.

“There are some big tests coming up, which will get us ready for the new season,” he continued. “The tournament will be good to be involved in and hopefully there will be a good turn-out.

“The pre-season schedule has been designed to show what we’re all about and get us ready for the challenges that we are going to face in The National League North.

“It’s going to be a tough League again this time around, but we’re going to have a good go at it.

“I think that the supporters are really getting behind what we are trying to do and we will need their backing.

“The return to blue and white stripes has been a big thing and hopefully it will help to bring the club and the fans closer together.”
