John McLoughlin has promised to help his successor after stepping down as the chairman of EVO-STIK League Southern Dunstable Town.

McLoughlin, pictured, was hailing his fellow officials and fans at Creasey Park this weekend after announcing that it was time for someone else to “move the club forward”.

In a statement admitting he no longer has the “time and finances” required at EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division level, McLoughlin vowed to support the Bedfordshire club’s newly appointed interim chairman Ed Harrison.

McLoughlin said: “After many years at Dunstable Town FC it is with deep regret that I am stepping down as chairman. I have now been involved with the club for many years and I feel it is time to allow someone else to move the club forward as I can no longer give the club the time and finances required at this level of football.

“I was delighted that Ed Harrison has stepped in as interim chairman and I will do my upmost to support him in this role. Ed is a local businessman and has proved within the town how successful his business has become and this can only help Dunstable Town FC.

“If you cut me in half I would read Dunstable Town FC but I have other responsibilities within my life and these have to come first and I hope you will understand. I hope to think that I can depart with my head held high as the club is still in the Southern League Premier, which is one of the toughest leagues within Non-League football.”

McLoughlin, who also managed the Blues, added: “To have been at the helm of such a great club with great history will stay with me for life and great memories have been made. I would like to thank the committee, supporters and the manager for their support and especially my wife who has been my rock.

“May I take this opportunity to personally thank the supporters club for all of their help and may I wish all of you great success in the future”.
