Torquay United head coach Gary Owers is hopeful that winger Jake Gosling can contribute to the 1st team after returning from injury.

Gosling, 24, returns to the fold after a period out with a fractured leg. He came on against Eastleigh on Boxing Day in the 76th minute to keep United in the hunt for a valuable point. It was his first action since coming off against Woking in late August.

“He’s a really good footballer, I’ve seen that,” said Owers at his weekly press call. “I’ve watched him at the training ground and he can do things the other lads can’t do. He’s so talented.”

Owers thinks Gosling can play at a higher level. The first challenge he faces is to gain match fitness and get back into the first team on a regular basis. With the upcoming suspension for George Dowling, Gosling is likely to start against Boreham Wood on Saturday.

“I just want him to come in and show how us how good he is. He looks like he’s got a goal in him. He looks like he’s creative. He looks like he can get us free-kicks and penalties in the final third.”
