Head coach Gary Owers kept Torquay United’s squad in the away dressing-room at AFC Fylde for nearly three-quarters of an hour before emerging to admit that he had ‘snapped’ after the Gulls’ 2-0 defeat which saw them drop back to the bottom of the National League.

United’s lack of goal-threat was evident once more and Owers said: “I have laid down a few home truths in there. I have snapped a little bit, if you like.

“Not by any stretch, especially in the second half, was it a performance that warranted getting anything out of the game.

“I’ve asked them how much they care, how much they want to get out of this situation.

“We’ll see what kind of reaction we get on Tuesday (at Sutton United).”
