Head coach Gary Owers pointed to ‘basic defending’ errors after Torquay United slid closer to National League relegation with a 3-1 home defeat to in-form AFC Fylde at wet and windy Plainmoor.
“I thought we played against a very good team, but if you give away the sort of goals we did – two free headers for their second and third goals – you are going to get beat.
“We got off to a great start with Brett’s (Williams) penalty, but then we self-destructed. It’s down to basic defending – not marking your designated man.
“For their third goal there are four yellow shirts in our area and one orange shirt, and the orange one scores – it’s not good enough.”
