Sam Topliss has re-signed for Cleethorpes Town.
The Owls say they have beaten off fierce competition to secure the popular defender’s services, after his release by Lincolnshire neighbours Gainsborough Trinity.
Fans will recall what an influential player Topliss was for the club last year, being an ever-present for large parts of the 2018/19 campaign.
Topliss said: “When I knew that opportunities may become more limited at Gainsborough and I became aware that Clee were interested, I jumped at the chance to return!
“I really enjoyed last season, the fans and everyone behind the scenes were great. I hope to be a part of helping the Owls to achieve their ambitions.”
Manager Dave Smith told the official website: “We are delighted to welcome Sam back to the club.
“No one stood in his way in the summer when Sam wanted to play at a higher level. However, we did lose a very good player and a big part of the dressing room.
“Once I learnt that due to the change of management structure at Gainsborough he may be allowed to leave, I moved quickly to bring him back. Many thanks to our board for their help in making this happen.
“Sam adds experience and quality to my squad. He is hungry to help us achieve our goals, which is what I am looking for in all my players. Welcome back, Toppo!”
