Phil Parkinson was delighted with Nantwich Town’s performance and result against Ashton United, as the Dabbers ran out 3-0 winners to progress to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

Goals from Andy White, Osebi Abadaki and Josh Gordon gave the Dabbers a well earned win and Parky gave us his thoughts after the game: “I thought it was an excellent performance by all the players. I thought we looked rock solid defensively. We’ve had a little bit of bad luck with people missing, but we’re not far off full strength in terms of defensive people back in the team and you could tell, it gave us a bit more strength in depth.

When you play football the way we do, people are always going to doubt your defensive side. My players have got a lot of grit and determination. They go to the bitter end and they are excellent traits for them as players.”

Whilst Parky was happy with the team performance, he was impressed with certain individuals, in particular new signing Ryan Brooke: “Even though Ryan hasn’t got on the scoresheet, I just think he gave us a little bit more threat and gave them something to think. He’s going to get fitter and fitter. You can see he’s not quite 100% fit but he’s getting in the right places. In the first minute, he’s almost scored, getting across his man. He’s nearly picked the pocket of the centre half a couple of times. He’s been a real positive since he’s come in. He’s given everyone around the place a big lift.

Looking at what we’ve had coming back, Sam Hall and Matt Bell, those types of players coming back give great competition in midfield. Curtis Jones and Ben(Harrison) looked untroubled at centre half, they dealt with everything that came their way. When Osebi Abadaki went off for the last 5-10 minutes, it was nice to see we could organise and defend against Ashton who are perennial top 5 finishers.

Parky was also pleased with the contribution of his substitutes, with Godwin Abadaki setting up the 2nd and 3rd goals and Josh Gordon scoring the 3rd. Both players came off the bench and made an impact in the game. Parky noted: “I got all the subs in at half time, I wasn’t happy with a couple of things. I don’t normally get the subs in at half time. Nobody is happy if they are on the bench but they must make an impact when they come on. They’ve got to be prepared, they must be ready. The lads went on and made a positive impact.

To come to Ashton and win 3-0 in the FA Cup is a fantastic achievement. It’s a huge credit to everyone involved at Nantwich Town”
