Chesterfield striker Mike Fondop could feature in Tuesday night’s friendly against Ilkeston Town as caretaker boss John Pemberton wants him to “hit the ground running” when he returns from suspension.

Fondop was sent off for violent conduct after the final whistle against Sutton United on January 4 and was subsequently hit with a three-match ban.

When the forward is back available for selection against Wrexham on February 8 the 26-year-old will have been out for more than a month.

Chesterfield’s top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions played in the friendly win against Staveley Miners Welfare and could feature against Ilkeston tomorrow (7.30pm).

Pemberton, who rates Fondop very highly, wants him to be sharp when he returns.

“I have got to keep him fit and keeping him fit is by playing games,” Pemberton said.

“When he is available again, if he is selected, I want him to hit the ground running.”
