Wrexham have announced that Akil Wright will be joining on a permanent basis, as a deal has been concluded with Fleetwood Town and the player has put pen to paper on a contract that takes him through to the summer of 2020.

A regular in the team since his loan move to the Racecourse in the July, Wright has formed a fruitful partnership with Sam Wedgbury in the middle of the park and helped push the team into the play-off positions of the National League. The 21-year-old is just glad that the negotiations are finally sorted, so he could commit to the club.

“It’s brilliant and a long time in coming, as I’ve been here since July. I’ve enjoyed it and it’s been class,” he said.

“I’ve got a lot to improve on, but I’m young and learning. I’ve got the gaffer helping me and he was also a midfielder with Wrexham.

“It’s good the boss has faith in me, playing me week in and week out, but I’ve got to repay him now.”

Manager Dean Keates was also happy to see another piece of his squad slot into place.

“We have all been pleased with Akil’s progress this season and I’m sure there is plenty more to come from him,” said the boss.

“You can see he enjoys being here and he has certainly played his part in helping the team this season.”
