Fairford Town have announced the appointment of Stuart Pike as Football Chairman.
Pike is currently the club’s main sponsor and principal of Burger Star (Gloucester) and he will bring to the club added expertise in both the club’s football and commercial structure.
In 2014 Pike was chairman of Gloucester City for a period of 148 days, but was unable to commit to the time necessary to be involved at that level in a Conference club
Burger Star’s long term commitment to the club will add further stability to what is already a strong profile and his professional approach will enable the club to hopefully progress upwards in the future.
Around 40 former Fairford Town players returned to Cinder Lane on Saturday for the club’s inaugural Former Players’ Day. Some had travelled from as far as Cornwall and Devon, whilst others were making their first return in 40 years.
It was a successful day – part of the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations – as the returnees watched the Uhlsport Hellenic Division One West local derby with Shrivenham as well as enjoying a display of club memorabilia, including pictures from the 1930s and club documentation dating back to 1892.
In the evening, Swindon-based band ‘Good Times’ provided excellent entertainment as another group of evening guests, many of them still involved in local football, arrived.
Club Committee member Chris Tanner commented: “It was great to see so many former players make the day and it will certainly now be an annual fixture in the calendar. On behalf of the club I would like to thank everyone who played a part in the day – including the many volunteers who once again gave up their time to make the event such a success.”
