Boston United’s pre-season campaign will move up a gear this week.

A Pilgrims team littered with trialists kicked off their summer friendlies last week with a 3-2 defeat at Basford.

Manager Craig Elliott plans to field much stronger sides when the Pilgrims visit Tadcaster Albion on Thursday, host Chesterfield on Saturday and travel to Lincoln United in the County Cup on Wednesday, July 18.

“There were a lot of trialists and a lot of them didn’t so themselves any good to be honest,” said Elliott of the game at Basford.

“But that is why you have those sorts of games. In every friendly from now on we’ll be taking it more seriously. We’ll be picking strong teams with just the odd trialist.

“We should be a lot more competitive and show more consistency in our play.”

Having swooped for former Lincoln City and Gainsborough Trinity striker Jonny Margetts, Elliott is closing in on two more forwards.

“I’m still looking for a couple of forwards and I’m hoping to tie them up this week if I can,” said Elliott.
