Boston United captain Luke Shiels is calling on his team-mates to channel their FA Cup disappointment into a sustained promotion challenge in the New Year.

The Pilgrims were edged out of the FA Cup by League One side Rochdale last week but remain well-placed in National League North for a tilt at the play-offs at the least.

With Saturday’s home fixture against Gateshead postponed due to waterlogged pitch, the Pilgrims are scheduled to be back in action at King’s Lynn Town on Boxing Day before successive home fixtures.

“I have been lucky enough to get a couple of goals in this cup run and it is the furthest I have personally got in the FA Cup,” reflected Shiels, who netted in earlier victories over Sutton Coldfield Town and Carshalton Athletic.

“It would have been nice to play a Premier League team to tell the grandkids about but everybody embraced every minute of it.”
