Brett Poate has left Gosport Borough by mutual consent, the club has announced this afternoon.

Poate’s departure ended an an action packed six year stay at the Aerial Direct Stadium – a spell which included two Gosport Borough F.C. logopromotions, an appearance at Wembley, an FA Cup first round match against Colchester United and a Hampshire Senior Cup win.

33-year-old Brett joined from Eastleigh in the summer of 2011 and quickly became an integral part of the side that would later win promotion to the Southern Premier League through the South & West Division play-offs.

He remained a solid part of the squad throughout the memorable Premier Division season which culminated in another promotion, again via the play-offs. Then he was to feature in the 2014 run to Wembley in the FA Trophy and he was the last surviving player from that squad to still be at the club.

Brett also featured in the 2015 Hampshire Senior Cup Final at Fratton Park as Gosport won the Hampshire Senior Cup for the second time.
The Club also confirmed that T.J Cuthbertson, Mike Carter and Warren Bentley have also officially departed with Cuthbertson returning to Sholing and Carter joining Havant & Waterlooville.

The Club would like to place on record its thanks to Brett, Mike, TJ and Warren for their service and wish them well in the future.

However, several players have joined Boro’ this week as Alex Pike’s re-build of his squad continues ahead of Tuesday night’s critical National South home game against East Thurrock United. The full story of the new arrivals will be available shortly.
