Ponteland United say they were shocked by manager Liam McIvor’s decision to take over as joint-manager of Newcastle Blue Star.

McIvor was confirmed as taking over alongside Paul Bryson at Ponteland’s fellow Northern Football Alliance Premier Division side.

Confirming that assistant Liam Bell will step up as their new manager, the club have said:

“Ponteland United was stunned last week and disappointed that first-team manager, Liam McIvor, had decided to leave the club and accept an offer to manage highly ambitious Newcastle Blue Star. Despite the untimely setback and disappointment, Liam departs with our grateful thanks for his commitment and long association with the club and wish him well.

“He leaves behind an excellent squad of players, and with assistant manager, Liam Bell, keen to continue, the team is left in very capable hands.

“For the second season running, it was announced on Saturday that the Northern Football Alliance league programme would be brought to a premature end with immediate effect. However the season will recommence in April with commencement of a revised Divisional Cup competition for Liam Bell, his players and supporters to look forward to.”
