Carl Magnay will be out of action for the rest of the year, with the Hartlepool United captain today booked in for surgery.

The right-back has been playing in discomfort in recent weeks, suffering from a hernia problem.

He was forced off an hour into last Tuesday’s draw with Tranmere and didn’t travel to Torquay for Saturday’s 2-0 win.

And surgery today will keep him out for around eight weeks.

Boss Craig Harrison said last week the option of managing the problem and putting surgery off was being considered, but surgery will clear up the issue in time for the second half of the season.
