Devon Live report that Plainmoor rang to more chants of ‘Owers Out’ as Torquay United slumped to a new low with another punchless defeat, this time to Chippenham Town.

United, who have scored only five goals in nine National League South games this season, started brightly but then faded against the Wiltshire part-timers whose unmarked set-piece header by Matt Smith in the 26th minute was enough to inflict a second home loss on Gary Owers’ second-best Torquay team.

The Gulls desperately lacked quality in key areas and, unlike their 2-0 win over Hemel Hempstead seven days before, their young loanees – Alex Bass, Jake Andrews and Opi Edwards – could not save them.

Chippenham goalkeeper Brad House had only three shots to save all afternoon, and none from the fifth to the 70th minutes.

Gulls fans were calling for Owers’ head, again, long before the final whistle.
