Evo-Stik Northern Premier League leaders Blyth Spartans have completed the signing of midfielder David McTiernan from league rivals Whitby Town.

McTiernan was in his third spell with the Seasiders and has made a total of 435 appearances for the club, scoring forty eight goals.

The club confirmed that they had received an approach from Spartans, who they say were able to offer the midfielder “a longer deal with better financial rewards, which Whitby Town cannot afford due to our smaller home attendances”.

McTiernan moves to Croft Park with the Spartans sat twelve points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League table, as they look to secure a return to the National League North four years after they were relegated from non-league’s second tier.

He could make his Spartans debut in their away game at Stourbridge on Saturday.
