Evo-Stik League Southern Banbury United were warning visitors to steer clear of their stadium on Tuesday during the height of Storm Doris.

The Puritans were forced to put out a warning to avoid The Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium on their website as gale-force winds tore off roof tiles and panels on their clubhouse in Oxfordshire, scattering debris across the car park and damaging at least one parked vehicle.

In a statement also cancelling their Friday night quiz, the EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division club said: “Storm Doris has hit the stadium, as there is a danger of flying debris, we strongly suggest that all volunteers/staff and visitors stay away from the stadium until the storm has died down.”

The Met Office say the winter storm ‘Weather Bomb’ rocked the UK with rain, snow and winds of up to 94mph, uprooting trees, grounding planes and killing one woman in Wolverhampton city centre who was hit by flying debris.
