Ramsbottom United have made Darren Green at the latest attacking option at the Riverside.

27 year old Green, formally of Stockport, Preston, Crewe, Barrow and Bamber Bridge is
RAMMY SIGNINGSreturning for his 2nd stint with the Rams after a brief spell in the promotion winning season.

The Preston based forward, who has also been utilised previously in midfield and as an emergency left back, spent several successful season and the sharp end of the Evo-Stik Division One with Bamber Bridge and will bring a good knowledge of what’s required to be competitive in the division, as well as a magical left foot!

Green was pleased to be back at the HWR, and spoke to the official website, “I’m really happy to be signing for Ramsbottam United.

“I’ve known Mark and Paul for a few years now….the way Mark addressed how he wanted to play football here made it a easy decision for me and the goals they want to achieve are the same as mine.

I’ve played for Ramsbottom before but it didn’t work out due to work commitments, the fan base is excellent and I’m really eager to get started under the management and help Rammy achieve success again”.

Having played under Mark Fell before, the Rammy joint manager knows exactly what he’s getting from his latest acquisition, “We’re getting an excellent player, experienced, technically gifted and importantly a huge will and desire to win. I know Darren will give his all for the club and fully expect him to play a major role this season.”

rammy signings 2Ramsbottom have made a further addition to their squad with the versatile Matty Atherton signing from Runcorn Linnets.

The 27 year old from Chorley is something of a Linnets legend having played a major part in their recent successes having just missed out on promotion to the Evo-Stik league in the last few seasons.

An adaptable all-rounder who’s comfortable at left back and left midfield, Atherton has a strong pedigree that includes Bamber Bridge, Clitheroe and Connors Quay as his previous clubs, and leaves Linnets as their record appearance holder.

A teacher by trade, Atherton is also a student of the game, currently studying his UEFA A licence, but his coaching career will have to wait as he joins the revolution at Rammy in their quest for a return to the Evo Stik Premier Division.

Paul Fildes was pleased to add another experienced player to the Rams new look side ‘I felt Matty had a lot to offer us and although I knew it would be tough to get him to leave Runcorn, the lure of Evo Stik football and our plans here at the club managed to get the deal over the line. He’s in his prime and will become an excellent addition for us’
