We are now just a matter of weeks away from the newly-formatted National League Playoffs. Barring a miracle (or catastrophe, depending on how you look at it), Macclesfield will be heading to League Two as the champions, although Tranmere could still feasibly catch them. However, the current odds for Macclesfield (1/100) and Tranmere (16/1) suggest that it is a remote possibility.

That still leaves around nine teams with legitimate chances to fill the six Playoff spots. Some, like Tranmere, are almost guaranteed to be in the Semi Final, whereas others, such as Bromley, only have an outside chance. Below is a quick look at those nine teams, with their chances rated using the latest Betway odds. Fancy an outsider? Promotion odds: 13/8

The favourites are showing decent form in the run-in, winning five out of their last six games. They have a couple of tricky games against fellow promotion chasers (Aldershot, Dover), but have three straightforward fixtures to finish the season.

Prediction: 2nd and an automatic place in the Semi Final.

Sutton United

Promotion odds: 11/4

Where did all the good form go? At one point, Sutton looked like challenging Macclesfield. Now a run of four defeats in five could see them miss the Playoffs. However, enough good work was done in February and March to make that unlikely.

Prediction: 4th.

Promotion odds: 6/1

This is being written just before Aldershot’s crunch tie with Tranmere, with the outcome likely a big factor in their playoff hopes. Their form has been patchy enough, but they will make the playoffs.

Prediction: 5th

Promotion odds: 6/1

Fylde are arguably the National League’s great entertainers, scoring more than anyone in the league, yet conceding the most of any team in the top half of the table. They have been excellent in recent weeks though.

Prediction: 3rd.

Boreham Wood

Promotion odds: 9/1

Just one win in five has made Boreham Woods position look somewhat precarious. They have three very winnable fixtures to end the season however, where they should just get enough points to clinch a spot in the Playoffs.

Prediction: 7th

Promotion Odds: 20/1

Wrexham’s problem most of the season has been in drawing too many games that should have been wins. The defence has been largely excellent but scoring continues to be a big problem.

Prediction: 8th

Promotion Odds: 20/1

They will have to make their very good home form count against Tranmere in the upcoming mid-week fixture. However, they may need to be almost perfect in every other game too to ensure a spot in the playoffs.

Prediction 9th

Promotion Odds: 33/1

Football often throws up a team to make a charge at the playoffs late in the season. Ebbsfleet look like they are playing that role this season. They have games in hand over all their rivals and they must make them count. They might just do it.

Prediction 6th

Promotion Odds N/A

While it is still mathematically possible for Boreham Wood to be promoted via the Playoffs, most bookmakers no longer offer odds on it. Put simply, they will need to win every game and hope they are given a few favours by other teams. You can still get odds of 6/1 if you fancy them to sneak into the Playoffs.
