Altrincham midfielder Darren Potter has announced his retirement from playing.

The former Liverpool player signed for the Robins just shy of a month ago, having left Tranmere Rovers earlier this year.

The 35-year-old ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves man, though, is now set to stop playing.

He has taken a part-time coaching role at Port Vale in the club’s academy.

Potter played 17 times for Liverpool in total, including in their triumphant 2004/05 Champions League campaign.
