Darren Byfield said he was delighted with his Redditch United players, despite seeing them fall to a last minute defeat at Kettering.
The Reds looked good value for a point but Lindon Meikle’s header deep into stoppage time saw the hosts take the points but Byfield said his side had impressed him just as much as they had in Saturday’s opening 5-0 victory.
“I’ve just said to the boys I’m absolutely delighted with them, I’m even more pleased with our performance than I was Saturday because Kettering are a good side and are going to be up there,” he said.
“We fought with them every minute and the fair result would have been a draw, even their manager said the same thing, understood what a good side we’ve got.
“I’m happy with how we played, I’m happy with how we fought, I’ve seen a massive difference with this team from last season, I’m gutted for them because we should’ve got something from it, but it happens and evens itself out over the season.”
Byfield believed the game could have gone either way, but despite the result going the wrong way, he is confident if the side can continue to display the same qualities, a successful season is in the offering.
“They had a couple of saves and one off the line and it was the same at the end for us as well, we had a couple cleared off the line.
It was an even match, it really was, and I’m delighted with my boys and if they keep playing like that, fighting like that, they’ll be at the right end of the table at the end of the season.”
