Altrincham boss Neil Young has taken another significant step towards shaping the sort of squad he wants for next season after Damian Reeves agreed to extend his stay at The J.Davidson Stadium.
The prolific frontrunner, a huge favourite among Altrincham supporters after his spectacular goalscoring exploits in recent years, accepted the offer of new terms on Wednesday, following talks with Young.
There was mistaking the new Alty manager’s delight at securing Reeves’ services for another season, at least, as he said: ‘Damian’s goalscoring record over the years speaks for itself, and we are very happy that he has bought into what we are looking to do and has agreed a new contract.
‘He gives us the added continuity we are looking for, and his experience will also help the younger players that we are bringing to the football club. Goalscorers are at a premium, even more so at this level, and Damian is certainly one of those.’
The major boost of hanging on to Reeves comes hot on the heels of keeper Andrew Dawber arriving from Fulham under-21s and midfielder Charlie Joyce signing from Southport. Young is hoping for an answer shortly from the other players he wants to retain from last season, James Lawrie and Michael Rankine
