Sam Wedgbury returned to action for Chesterfield in Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Staveley Miners Welfare, after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The midfielder played just over an hour, in an end to end affair which finished 4-4 and he was delighted to get some minutes back out on the pitch.
“It’s been the longest twelve months of my life,” he explained.
“To be a part of the dressing room was more than enough for me today.
“To get 60 minutes in my first game back after a serious injury, I’m over the moon.”
The 30-year-old has been able to partake in a full pre-season training schedule since recovering from injury and after Saturday’s game, he was full of praise when talking about his first pre-season under John Sheridan.
“It’s been really enjoyable,” said Wedgbury.
“The footballs are out every day, we work hard and obviously we have all the stats and everything, but the gaffer played at a good level and he knows what the players want.”
