Lincoln City striker Matt Rhead has been taken off the transfer list and has signed a new two-year deal with the Vanarama National League club.

Rhead was the Imps top goalscorer last season and had been placed on the transfer list at his own request in May.

The 32-year-old joined City in May 2015 after helping Mansfield Town to promotion back to the Football League.

He was linked with summer moves to Wrexham and Barrow but Imps boss Danny Cowley remained determined to keep hold of a player he sees as key to their success this season.

Formerly with Norton United, Kidsgrove Athletic, Eastwood Town, Nantwich Town and Corby Town, he was top scorer for the Imps last season with 23 goals in all competitions.

Rhead’s new deal means that he is now contracted with the club until the end of the 2017/18 season.

The Imps begin their Vanarama National League season with a trip to Woking on Saturday
