Torquay United midfielder Courtney Richards has been ruled out of action for six to eight weeks.

Richards sustained a medial collateral ligament injury against Barrow last weekend.

Speaking to the club’s official website player-manager Kevin Nicholson said “The results of Courtney’s scan have come back and it’s the news I think we were expecting,”

“It’s hugely disappointing for Courtney but it’s now an opportunity for another player to show the never say die spirit that he has shown in every game, and for other leaders in the group to step up to the mark.

“It’s a blow to lose our captain, but with Aman Verma, Damon Lathrope, Luke Young, Sam Chaney, and defender Giancarlo Gallifuoco, we have players who can go in there and carry on where he left off.

“I’m sure Courtney will still lead by example in and around the lads, and even on the treatment table. It’s important that every player plays their part to ensure we finish the season strongly.”
